A few years ago, I went on a road trip to London with my best mate, to see our favourite band, for the first time in a decade. We used to do trips like that, sometimes extended ones that criss-crossed the country, before the band in question relocated to the USA. It was a reunion of sorts, with many of the happy faces from years ago.

There was lots of catching up going on, and between the road trip, the group meet-up in a pub and the gig itself, there was plenty of time to chat. Plenty of time for anecdotes and stories. One such anecdote sounded sufficiently bonkers to get my imagination running, and soon, a story emerged.

Just like the characters in the book, I can’t go into too much detail about the brief story I heard on that trip to London, and I don’t know how much truth there was to it. In my imagination, it involved chases, various locations and secret agent types watching all the while.
